Forget to make a dinner reservation? Or maybe you haven't planned a Valentine's day date yet ??(remember you only have 2 days!!) A lot of restaurants are already completely full so what are you going to do? Call the restaurant of your choice and ask if they could make a meal for pick-up. Then eat it outside in front of an amazing view (you might need to bundle up) or if it's just too cold where you live, maybe just in the front seat of your car. Or you could eat it at your own kitchen table (just make sure your kids are gone and you don't turn on the TV and you light lots and lots of candles).

Assuming your sweetheart has a desk or a nightstand, a current framed photo of the two of you would be a thoughtful Valentine's gift. Seriously when is the last time you actually printed one of those things out (probably not since your wedding!). You can upload a photo right to Walgreens or Bartells and they will even print it out FOR YOU! I'm going to bet that you can even buy a frame at the store when you pick up the print. For a personal touch add a sweet message on the picture with a permenant marker. This is a VERY thoughtful gift that takes almost no thought- perfect for the Valentine challenged husband or the average busy juggling a couple kids wife.

One of these could fulfill all of your cupcake fantasies! While I was in Portland, I was determined to find at least one new cupcake place. Mission completed. Cupcake Jones. I am not exaggerating when I tell you, these are the BEST most scrumptious, moist cupcakes i've ever had (INCLUDING the ones I make myself). This company mainly buys local ingredients and is committed to being environmentally friendly. The best part is that they don't use shortening in their frosting, a BIG pet peeve of mine, so these cupcakes taste homemade and delicious. Don't you want one . . . right now!?!?!?! In search of a romantic restaurant and one that served Ceviche (lime soaked fish), my husband found this gem in Portland.

Andina Restaurant

It certainly fit the bill, it was very romantic and the food was superb!!! I had to stop myself from licking the plate. The food was like nothing I've every tasted but in a good way. It was set you back a pretty penny at $22-$25 a plate but for a special occasion I would highly recommend it.

Keeping the honeymoon alive

i originally posted this on my blog and shauna asked me to post it here as well:

we have several old men couriers who come by work once a week or so from the hospital. they are always cheery with a twinkle in their eye and they have grandpa-y type things to say like, "show me that smile!"

today the courier handed me the envelope and i told him to stay dry... expecting him to quickly be on his way. but he was still standing there.

how long have you been married? he asked.

two years next month, i said.

we're going on 54, he said. may i give you a bit of advice? make sure you do the little things that make him know you still love him. he told me about how he serves his wife by feeding her latte habit. on the days he is a courier he calls her from his last stop and asks her if she'd like a latte. her response, "i've been waiting for you to call all day!" he said he cleans up and does chores for her. when i asked how she shows love to him he said by forgiving him when he forgets birthdays. she also knocks him on the nose to demand smooches.

it was a brief conversation. it lasted but a few minutes and for whatever reason he shared part of himself with me. it does come back to the little things - like surprise chapsticks because i seem to lose mine. critters in the mail. a weekend getaway to a town posing as bavaria. making me fantastic naked pasta when i don't want to think about cooking.

i should probably start smacking him on the nose to redeem my smooches!

I was recently blessed with an adorable baby boy. Needless to say, diaper changing and sore nipples have taken precedence to thoughts of romance, let alone going on a date. My darling husband bless his heart (I think desperate for some one on one time) surprised me with a sweet and simple gesture. He picked up some scrumptious chocolate hazelnut gelato, lit some candles and we enjoyed a solid uninterrupted 5 minutes reconnecting over the kitchen table. . . . perfection!

Installing a husband

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance -- particularly in the flower and jewelery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5 and then installed undesirable programs such as AFL 5.0, The Ashes 3.0, and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Dear Desperate:

First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an Operating System.

Please enter the command: 'http: I Thought You Loved Me.html' and try to download Tears 6.2 and don't forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

But remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, or Video game Hour 7.0 .

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources).

Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance.

We recommend Food 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Urban Striptease Aerobics takes some of the basic moves of a striptease and combines them with aerobic elements to create a fun, energizing and sexy workout. The classes are women only and nobody takes off their clothes. ;) It's just a fun way to get some exercise and who knows? It could even spice up your love life. Needless to say, I don't think your husband will complain.

Several gyms offer these classes in the Seattle area as well as Federal Way, Kirkland, and Edmonds (check into paying for individual classes instead of buying a membership). I took one of these classes near the college I attended and LOVED it!!

Located in Wallingford, off Stoneway and 46th, I'm finding hard to find words to describe how fabulous I think this restaurant is. The decor is very appropriately bizarre, every time I go, I find a million new things on the ceiling or tucked away in a corner. The atmosphere is romantic and it feels like you've stumbled on a secret treasure. All of their ingredients are bought within 300 miles. The dishes that I've tried have been wonderful. The menu is a little pricey, $14-$22 but for a special occasion- WORTH IT!!! I've also read some poor reviews regarding staff but I'm happy to say that every waiter we've had has been delightful. Also, for dessert, Gelati is a MUST - I love chocolate hazelnut. I can't wait to go back!

yes this week is the 4th of july, also known as independence day, but we decided we'd sneak away to victoria. (go figure we'd celebrate the 4th in a foreign country but it's not my first time! in 2006 i celebrated peruvian style).

Don't be turned off by the awful mustard yellow sign...we found our fabulous take-out restaurant!! Krua Thai Family Kitchen delivers some of the most delicious Thai food I have ever eaten. They are located right by Kidd Valley on 25th. They offer free delivery within the U-District on orders over $15. The service was awesome - they were really friendly and we had our food delivered to our door within 30 minutes. I highly recommend the yellow curry fried rice and the "cashew delight." I've been craving the fried rice ever since...and no, I'm not pregnant.

I have never stepped foot inside the restaurant and judging from the outside, I wouldn't have expected it to be this cute. Rob and I wondered if these pictures are for real. :) So let me know if you've been there!

So put the kids to bed early and enjoy a fabulous, inexpensive ($7-11/dish) dinner delivered to your door!

Greek for the whole family

So this is my first Married and Still Dating posting which I know is long over-due but I do have a good recommendation. Scott and I try and go out every week but for several reasons we always have Eve with us. Therefore our criteria of a good place to eat is a little different. Good food is an obvious. I'm a vegetarian so that limits our choices even more. We tend to like privately owned places where the ambiance is unique and the help is nice and child-friendly. And if it's relatively close by that's a definite plus as well.

We've found several places that we like but one of our favorites is a Greek cafe (Montlake area) called Vios. Mediterranean food is my absolute favorite so I'm partial from the get-go. I would definitely recommend Vios for diner rather than lunch as the dinner menu is more varied. It is a little pricey for the amount of food that you get so don't go there if you're ravenous. But the quality of the food and especially of the experience is wonderful. Much better than the more popular Greek restaurant Costas Opa in Ballard. The best dinner (family-style) we've had there was:

Trio Sampler w/pita (hummus, babaganoush and tzatziki) - $10.25
Roasted Eggplant Salad - $9.00
and the Cheese Plate - $9.25

But the best thing about Vios isn't the food, the ambiance (old wood tables and Greek flags) or the waitress that looks and acts like the aunt on My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It's the play area. One corner of the restaurant is walled off and is filled with toys and books. There is even a bar along the wall so you can eat while you watch your kids play. It is so nice, especially compared to our usual restaurant circus, I mean experience.

Okay, so this is more of a plea for help then a date suggestion. We are going to the Olympic Peninsula with my parents at the end of May. However, I have never been and I don't know where to stay. (We will be there for two nights.) Does anyone have any suggestions on good places to stay and/or must sees while we are over there?

I have always been disgusted with men who think that a box of chocolates and a little stuffed animal is a permissible gesture of love. To me it screams- "I put off something I've known has been coming for months and so fortunately the drugstore opened in time this morning for you to think I put a lot of thought into my gift." We, women are not deceived! Has anyone had those chocolates before? The assorted ones in the yellow or red box with a rose imprinted on the front- that taste so waxy that for all you know they could have been sitting on the shelf since Valentine's day 1983.

Well, yesterday while I was window shopping at U-Village (the only thing I can afford to do there) and happened to wonder into Fran's Chocolates. The chocolate aroma overwhelmed my senses and I entered a highly euphoric wonderland! I ordered the dark hot cocoa (the best I've EVER had) and the hazelnut crunch chocolate truffle plus they threw in a complementary bittersweet truffle with a flick of gold paint the top. I now understand why chocolate considered an aphrodisiac, and I happy to say that if my husband ever got me Fran's chocolates for Valentine's, Anniversary or Mother's day it would exceed all of my expectations!!! or even if he just got me one for the heck of it, he would be well rewarded. :) So find a specialty Chocolate store near you.

I dare you to find a better Indian restaurant than Cedars Restaurant on Brooklyn in the U-district (seriously, let me know). I grew up with good old fashioned mormon casseroles and butter and salt added to each item on the menu. My Dad tried his best to get us kids to branch out and try things like Tom-kah (sp?) soup and curry but we shot him down every time, too scared to try something "spicey." These days, I'm trying to do my Dad proud, after all his efforts and I now try new food and mostly I like it, but I especially LOVE Indian food. Nothing better than warm naan and Chicken Tikka Masala. Pretty sure this place has won awards but if not, I give them my own, Shauna LOVES you Award. Check out their menu here.

Chile Pepper

In my time in Seattle, I have not been very impressed with the Mexican restaurants in Seattle..... until now. Chile Pepper is located on 45th just before Stone (in Wallingford). You can't miss it, just look for the bright orange house as seen in the picture. I loved their food. I had the tostadas and they were delicious. We took our whole family and our girls loved it also. (Caitlin raved about the delicious food all evening.) There was probably about a dozen tables in the whole restaurant and we were served by what appeared to be the owner and his wife. For any Mexican food lovers, this is a must try restaurant. Oh, I can't forget, the prices were also very reasonable. Most dishes were under $10.

Monorail oh monorail!

For some reason the monorail is fascinating to me. The monorail leaves every 10 minutes for a few dollars from the Seattle Center (attached to the Center House) and goes to West lake center. Have dinner at P.F. Chang's (located in the shopping center) for the delectable Chicken Lettuce wraps ( Quickly cooked spiced chicken served with cool lettuce cups) and Fried Banana spring rolls (Six warm, crispy bites with coconut pineapple ice cream and drizzled with caramel and vanilla sauces. Delicious!). Then ride the elevator up to the Sweet Factory to get some refreshment for the monorail returning you to the Seattle Center house (which has Salt Water Taffy and frozen bananas dipped in chocolate)

The University of Washington has a driving range thats open to the public. And its cheap! Plus if you've never golfed before he can unleash his tiger skills and teach you a few things. (as long as this sort of thing doesn't usually lead to an argument). :)

Floating Around Seattle

Can't afford that cruise to Alaska just yet, or don't have the time? Are the Argosy Cruises a little too expensive also (though if you have the money, this is another great date idea I'll talk about another time)? I have the perfect solution! Try a ride on a Washington State Ferry. I have been riding the ferries since I was little when my dad lived on Whidbey Island, to now, when I go just for the fun of it. I have always looked forward to the trips. One of my favorites is the local ride from downtown Seattle to Bainbridge Island. We park our car by the piers and walk on. I like to go just before it gets dark. That way, we get the best of both worlds... leaving and getting to see the beautiful city in the light, and retuning to the beauty of the city lights at night. When there is a chill in the air, you can bring on a hot chocolate or buy one on board. Make a night of it and get dinner somewhere on the pier; there are a lot of great places. There are also some fun places within walking distance of the docks on Bainbridge Island. Not far from the dock is a park that you can walk to and have a picnic. It really is an inexpensive adventure and a great way to get some fresh air! I always enjoy myself and feel refreshed after a ride on a ferry!!!! Just make sure you have a jacket and a rubber band for your hair, the rides are always windy, and even on a nice day it can feel chilly out on the water!

The Best Valentine's Day Ever!!

I wanted so badly to tell my husband my heart's desire for Valentine's Day. But what I wanted even more was for him to come up with something thoughtful on his own...even if it was free! I wanted to know that he thought of something that I would especially like. So Valentine's Day came and went and he kept telling me, "I have something planned for next Saturday - a surprise that will be really fun!" In my head I'm thinking, fun for me or fun for you? He threw some deceptive clues my way in order to throw me off track (which totally worked). Saturday came and he finally revealed that a massage therapist would be coming over to give me a one hour massage. He would take our daughter and be gone during the time. What a shocker! Because this was my heart's desire! A massage to ease the discomforts of my pregnancy. I had dropped a lot of hints about this previous to Valentine's Day and I thought they had fallen on deaf ears. I was so pleased and felt so loved that my husband heard me and planned this special day for me.

Josh and I had a fun, quick little date at Barnes and Noble after running errands the other night. We went into the store and loaded our arms with fun easy read books like interesting facts and jokes. Then we walked up to the espresso bar on the mezzanine (people take books up there with them all the time), found a table, unloaded the books, and headed over to the counter to pick out some YUMMIES. In their selection of treats, they have cookies, muffins, CHEESECAKE FACTORY CHEESECAKE, and all sorts of desirables. I went straight for the Godiva Chocolate cheesecake (which, was half the price it would have been at The Cheesecake Factory, just over $4), Josh opted for a gooey chocolate cupcake. Then we took our deserts back to our table with the books and sat and read while we ate. We went through all sorts of books and read things to each other that we found funny. Josh enjoyed "The Darwin Awards" while I was telling him blonde jokes from a joke book. In the end, we bought "1001 Ways To Be Romantic"... which I just noticed is missing from the shelf, so Josh must have it at work with him, trying to find some ideas :-)! Shopping while you eat and date... how multi-taskerish is that?

This one is for all of you Brazil fans out there. I have been meaning to try out this restaurant for almost a year now. We finally did last Friday night. A comida estava excelente e deu saudades do Brasil. I loved it! They serve Bahian food. Although I was never in Bahia, what Ben and I got was typical Brasilian food. We had an order of Feijoada (served with white rice and collared greens) with Aipim Frito (fried manioc) and Faraofa (hard to explain but excellent with beans). Ahhhh, I was in heaven. The atmosphere, serving style and everything was very laid back--typical Brazilian style. I definitely recommend this restaurant to any of you missing Brazil or any of you who would like a taste of Brazil.

Experimental College

So Century Ballroom was a good way to bet bitten by the dancing bug, but I want to learn more without making a major commitment. The Experimental College offers all types of classes in a wide range of subjects: Dancing, Arts & Crafts, Finance, Culinary Arts, Yoga etc. Most of the classes are on UW campus, but you do not have to be a student, although you do get a discount if you are. The classes are often in the evening or on a Saturday, and they vary on how many times the class meets, some meet just once, others 4 etc. Bob and I are going to take a Salsa class that meets four times and it costs $54 per person. I'm excited about it, this guarantees us 4 weeks of consistent dating, and if you break down the cost over 4 weeks, it isn't that bad of a price for a date. I'm taking a drawing class right now through EC, and I really enjoy it, but we'll see how the dancing class goes :)

Century Ballroom II

Not only does Century Ballroom have bands that come and perform, but they also have dancing with a DJ every night, and it's a lot cheaper. Every night they feature a different style of dance, salsa, tango, swing, waltz etc., and 30 minutes before the real dancing begins they offer a short lesson on the basics for the dancing impaired. Bob and I did this last week for salsa, and it was so much fun! We went for their salsa night, it was $7 each for the lesson and dancing from 8:30 till 12:30 pm. I thought they could have taught more during the lesson, but it was enough to keep us going for a bit and we picked up some more moves from people around us. The dress was all over the board, some people were in dresses, others were in jeans. Overall it was just fun to be out doing something active and learning something together. It was cheaper than a movie and we were working out a bit, rather than sitting for two hours, eating popcorn and getting fatter!

Fun Messages

When Matt and I were newlyweds, we would leave messages for each other. My favorite was when I came home from work and the entire living/dining room area was covered in balloons! Matt left instructions to pop them to reveal a message. He had taped "I LOVE YOU PUNKIN" to the floor. Though "Punkin" was a nickname that is no longer with us, it was so cute and it was such a nice suprise to come home to!

I think other "high school" type things like this would be really fun now--like covering the bedroom floor or any area of the house in hershey kisses and leaving a note saying that you kiss the ground your spouse walks on.

You can also write messages with an expo pen on the mirror and it will come off just fine.

You could do this very cheap and personalize it with some fun things. Plus you get to keep the cute container! ;)

Getting to know you...

Been with your spouse a little too long and think you already know everything about him or her? Or has it been not long enough and you want to know more? Or are you preparing to audition for the newly wed game and need to know some useless things about your spouse? Josh and I made up a little game that we like to play if we are together and have already told each other every FASCINATING thing we have to share or talk about. We call the game, "Would You Rather?". I am sure we aren't the first to do this, nor will we be the last. But in playing this game, we have had some good laughs, found out some interesting things about each other, and started some interesting conversations. It's not hard to play at all. Each person takes a turn coming up with a "would you rather question" such as, "Would you rather be dumb or ugly?" The only rule is that the other person HAS to answer with one of the choices you have given them, even if neither seems appealing. You can decide if each person is allowed to pass on one or more, or if there is some sort of penalty for doing so. I suggest kisses or 10 minute foot rubs for any passed questions. But decide ahead of time if you are going to do this. This game is not intended to start arguments. The nice thing about this game is that you can take it and play anywhere whenever you want 'cause it's all in your heads! Also, unless it does result in some sort of a fight, there is no clean up!!

One of David and I's favorite things is to listen to music. Our poor computer's hard drive gets pushed to the max sometimes with the amount of music we store there. We listen to all different genres, from classical to rap occasionally. I always think to myself ooh I would love to share that song with David, but at the risk of him thinking I am more of a dork then he already does I keep the song to myself. Well no longer, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching; we normally spend it at home, make a fancy dinner after the kids are in bed and have some fattening sinfully delicious dessert. Well this year I am going to kick it up a notch and add a CD of all the different songs that remind me of why I married the wonderful guy that I did and that will be my gift to him this year. SPUDS and ALKI

What is Seattle without some seafood? Our favorite fish and chips, by FAR, are served at SPUDS on Alki Beach. There are a couple other Spuds in the area, but we have found that this one is the best. They serve halibut fish, but they are more expensive and really not as good as their good ole cod! Josh and I will get their "Special" to share which is 3 pieces of fish with fries, a drink, and a large tarter. Their pieces of fish are really generous, so sharing this and getting one of their yummy coleslaws fills us up quite nicely.

A bonus about the Spuds on Alki is that it is located directly across the street from Alki Beach. During the warmer months, we like to get their fish and take it across to the beach and have a picnic. Even in September, when the weather starts to chill, we would do this on my birthday, in the evening, and make a fire in one of the designated fire pits. Some of my favorite memories with my family are of this. Alki itself is a nice date spot. Besides Spuds, it also has some other small spots for eats. We are addicted to Spuds, so we haven't made it to any of these places, except Pepperdocks. After our fish, we wander over there for a nice waffle cone filled with ice cream.

If you have already eaten, try watching the sunset from Alki. Pack up a blanket and some cards and just go there to relax with your honey! Josh and I brought our laptop there once and watched a movie on the beach like we were at a drive in. We just laid on the blanket with our backs up to a large log and snuggled... very nice!

I am a self proclaimed cupcake addict! I love everything about them - how little and cute they are, making them myself, the way the dense cake on the bottom tastes with the sweet and fluffy frosting on the top, but most of all I like eating them! And as my husband can testify, I crave them all the time! These places are popping up all over the place!

My favorite place to satisfy my craving is Cupcake Royale, of course they are not as good as the ones you can make yourself but definitely a second best!

Serendipitous Chocolate

Has anyone ever seen the romantic movie, "Serendipity"? Dilettante cafe on Broadway is practically straight out of that film! Very romantic, low lighting, vintage mirrors on the walls and did I mention . . . CHOCOLATE!! A late night dessert can't get much better than this. They sell individual chocolate truffles made with their specially made trademark Ephemere chocolate but also have rich desserts and Dr. Sloans (English hot chocolate).

Washington's Coast: South Beach Campground

This is not a place to go to get away from people. At first glance, someone might think it looks like an unpaved parking lot with the occasional picnic table and fire pit, but looking past that, there is so much beauty that the rest just seems to melt away. With that said, and not being afraid to share the beauty of the ocean with others myself, I LOVE this spot!!! For the last couple of years, Josh and I have been dumping the kids on my grandparents' doorstep and running away to this place. And it's SO easy to do. We keep a camp box in our storage that has the essentials in it like unperishable foods, foil, utensils, soap, matches, etc... we grab that, pack a cooler with fresh yummies, pack up some clothes (only the comfortable and weather appropriate stuff), some games, a great book, blankets for the beach, a kite, the cameras, and we run away for a night or two. When we get there, we back the van up to one of the sites, set up our bed in the back of the van, start a fire (wood can be purchased at a local store up the highway if you can't scavenge enough drift wood) and get cozy as we drink in the fresh sea air mixed with the warmth of the campfire. During the day, we wander down to the round rock beach (just about EVERY rock on the beach would make a perfect skipping stone) and find a spot between the giant driftwood logs to make our own little fire pit on the beach. From there, we read, snack, and watch the sunset. Josh likes to make forts with the logs on the beach. The wind is perfect for kite flying. And it always amazes me how fun it is to feng shui the beach with a stack of rocks on a log. I get so relaxed here that I almost like doing this more than any big fancy vacation I have been on. I dream about going back during the cold months that the grounds are closed. Sites are under $15 a night. It can fill up pretty quick in the summer months. We have found that the trick is to get there at least an hour or two before the campground's check out time. This has worked out really well for us so that we can have our pick of spots right up to the beach, because some of them are back behind those spots and you have to look over someone's site to see the view. It's about a 4 hour (beautiful) drive if you leave from Seattle and go south through Olympia and over to Aberdeen. On the trip home, it's fun to make a loop and drive north up the coast through Port Angeles (where you will find my favorite Antique store ever and a very yummy Mexican restaurant... more on that someday in another post) and over to the ferry on Bainbridge. Fares for the ferry are MUCH cheaper if you go from west to east than if you go from east to west, and going either way takes about the same time for travel. If you want a little more seclusion, the Kalaloch campground is about 5 miles up the road... but it costs a little more per night, fills up even faster, and only has VERY few sites with views of the ocean from them. In between these two campgrounds is the Kalaloch Lodge. We have never stayed there, but if you have some extra money ($100+ per night, at least) it looks like a very nice place to stay.

The 5 Spot: One of Seattle's BEST restaurants!

No need to dress up for this place! The 5 Spot is my favorite restaurant in Seattle, located on Queen Anne. The menu there changes themes quarterly and so do the decorations inside. From the South to New England, the theme is always American, and always yummy. It's always fun to see what they have "cooked up" for their menu. For those who have a hard time with change though, they do have some staples on there menu that are always there. This is where I usually find myself in trouble. I LOVE their "brisket" marinated in Coca Cola and Knor sauce, served with mashed potatoes and the BEST shoe string onion rings you've ever tasted (and I am not an onion ring fan)! Pair that up with their botanical salad with their raspberry vinaigrette dressing, and I will salivate just thinking about it. Their house made dressings are so good, I often order a to go bowl of them to take home for my own salads. This place is a definite Seattle treasure. Puppy love

Before I got pregnant, Bro and I seriously researched getting a dog. We both felt strongly that before seeing a breeder that we would do our best to find a rescue dog at one of the local shelters. Many a date night we would hop in our car to see these homeless cuties (and some scary ones). The absolute best place we found was the Seattle Animal Shelter, not only was it the cleanest and most humane but they have the biggest selection of animals. Long story short, I became prego and presto- the dog idea went on hold indefinitely. However, for a date, we still like to go visit these wonderful ragamuffins. Shelters located WHEREVER you live!

first of all, i L O V E this blog. yeah for shauna for such a great idea.
okay, romance has been the last thing on my mind since i have been spending most of my time hugging the toilet instead of my gorgeous husband, BUT i did this the other day and it was most effective and simple.
i wrote on our bathroom mirror with my lip liner a short sappy note and then put on lipstick and kissed by it. pretty corny but my honey loved it and when he was cleaning the mirror the other day he even saved it. pretty painless and it meant a lot to him.

Weekend Getaway Ideas?

This summer, since I won't be nursing or pregnant for the first time in a while, Rob and I want to escape for a weekend while my mom watches our kids. I know there are good getaway places just a few hours drive or ferry ride from here, but I have no idea what they are. Do you have any suggestions? Details would be good - how to get there, where to stay, etc. Obviously, money is an issue.

One more thing - ask me every once in a while how the planning is going! Otherwise, I'm afraid we won't actually do it! ;)

Sitting on the floor, eating with your fingers- every 2 year olds dream! Last night I went to Marrakesh Moroccan Restaurant in Seattle with some girlfriends. This would be a great yet unique date. If you get the 5 course meal it can be pretty pricey ($19ea.) but we stuck to the ala carte menu, where dishes range from $5-11. I was more excited about the experience so I wasn't expecting anything from the food but it surprised me with every bite! I now love Moroccan food! They have very different but yummy combinations.

For those of you who haven't been to a fresh market for your produce, the difference is delectable! A fun date is to visit a local food market and buy fresh goods for your upcoming meal. A unique place to visit is Uwajimaya's located in the International District. A beautiful asian supermarket with a food court with anything from Vietnamese to Malaysian, my mom raves about their orange chicken.

While you are in the area stop by Liem's Aquarium & Bird shop (literally a hole in the wall) to check out the exotic fish, its a little hard to find but the fish are amazing!

My husband surprised me with this one one day! I thought is was very sweet and thoughtful. Back in the "old days" we used to write each other "love notes" A LOT. But 7 years of school and two kids later, we call saying I love you before we hit the sheets a romantic gesture. So I was completely surprised one night when I was getting ready for bed (while my husband, who works until 11pm was at work) and I found this bottle sitting on our bed. My sweet husband had taken one of my decorative bottles, written a beautiful note and slipped it in the bottle, then tied a bow around the mouth of it and left it for me to find. He placed one of my old dried roses next to it. I still keep the bottle and the message in our room. It sits on the head board of our bed and is a reminder of the thoughtfulness of my sweet guy!

Flowers on a budget...

I always have fun daydreaming of ways I could surprise my husband... or maybe more visa versa. And I always give my husband a hard time because he rarely gives me flowers. One thing's for sure, he has never had flowers delivered to me. But I can understand that, it can be such an expense to have flowers delivered. Why not talk a willing, and hopefully good humored, friend or relative into doing it for you. The fun would be in the surprise and the knowledge of the thought and preparation that would go into it. There are many places that bouquets of flowers can be purchased at a very reasonable price. My favorite place for flowers is Pike Place Market where I always find amazing bouquets of seasonal flowers for $5 - $15. But even Safeway can have some very pretty, inexpensive bouquets. You can sometimes get 14 roses there for $14.99. If you already have a vase at home, use it and save the money on buying one. Have the flowers put together and then send your friend off to deliver to your wife, or husband, while you are apart. If your friend is feeling REALLY generous in spirit, have them sing a song, or read a poem that you send to go with the flowers. Then someday, pay your friend back by doing the same for them! In the end, your friend can tell you how your loved one reacted better than some anonymous delivery person. And your spouse will be surprised and grateful for the thought you put into it, and the desire you had to do something special for them!!

A Convenient "Pacific Place" for a Movie and Dinner

My husband and I love to go to the movies at Pacific Place. You do have to pay to park, but it is only $5 for all evening and pretty reasonable at other times. The theatre is situated on the top floor and is surrounded by a number of different restaurants. So we save gas money and time because we don't have to drive back and forth (nice when you are on the clock with a babysitter, or just don't have a lot of time)!

There are a number of different restaurants in the mall, but we like to go to Gordon Biersch for dinner. When we really want to splurge, it is a fun place to eat. But if we are strapped, there are ways to work around their menu and get a yummy dinner for a very reasonable price and still feel like we have treated ourselves. One example: their crab and artichoke bread bowl!!! My husband and I will share one of those bad boys for $10 and then get a wedge salad or some of their sides that are around $5 or less. We can usually get out of there for under $30 including the tip. To save even more, eat a bit before you go and then just get a bread bowl or some fun appetizers!

Another bonus is that the AMC theatre allows you to bring milkshakes in from the Jonny Rockets right next to it! If we get dinner somewhere there or eat at home, it is always fun to get a milkshake to go from Jonny's and take it in to sip on while we watch the flick!

Pacific Place is an UPSCALE mall in the heart of downtown Seattle. So depending on what time of day you go, there is always some fun window shopping available. Located on the bottom floor is a Barnes and Noble. My husband and I enjoy perusing the music and books after our late night movies, if we have time; they stay open later than the rest of the stores.

We find this to be a fun and very convenient "Place" for a date!! Here is their website if you want to check it out!!

My hubby and I are going on vacation to La Mexico in a month, due to this fact, my husband has been spending an extra hour away from me at night to go jogging (like I don't already think he's the hottest thing since . . . since . . . well, I just can't think of anything hotter!) I recently borrowed Cindy Crawford's The Next Challenge Workout (Copyright 1993) VHS tape from a girlfriend and I begged him to stay home with me and try it instead. He thought it was going to be silly but it turned out to be really fun and I have to say that I have a whole new admiration for Cindy (wow!) and my buns are killing me this morning! I think the library carries workout videos so you could do this date for free in the comfort of your own living room and you don't even need a babysitter (preferably your kids are asleep but in our case Bro used our babe as an extra weight). Thanks Cindy for a great date- I owe ya!
